THE VAL D’ORCIA AREA
Val d’Orcia, or Valdorcia extends from the hills south of Siena to Monte Amiata. Its rolling cultivated hills are occasionally interrupted by picturesque towns and villages such as Pienza, rebuilt as an "ideal city" in the 15th century under the patronage of Pope Pius II, and Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino is counted among the most prestigious Italian wines. Its iconic landscape has been represented in works of art ranging from Renaissance painting to modern photography. Medieval castles, ancient villages, charming rural farmhouses and rows of endless vineyards or cypresses and golden fields whose grain seems to sway following the rhythm of nature: these are just some of the characteristics of this fantastic area to be admired by driving along its streets

PIENZA

Cappella della Madonna di Vitaleta and Cypress trees
A chapel located between Pienza and San Quirico d’Orcia . Isolated and surrounded by some cypress trees, today is one of the most famous image of the Val d’Orcia. There are two distinct groups of cypress trees that has become the symbol of this area
Montalcino
The approach to Montalcino is breathtaking, with Medieval spires and its impressive fortress towering over the green valley below. Once you are up there its narrow and steep Medieval streets and stone buildings are the perfect setting for a little food shopping and wine tasting.
Montepulciano
The delightful walled hilltop of Montepulciano is well worth a climb especially for its main square and the elegant Renaissance palaces and churches. The town had an important role in the Middle Ages when Florence and Siena were fighting.
Abbey of Sant’Antimo
One of the most beautiful monuments in an ancient Roman style which also has elements of the French and Lombardy styles. According to the ancient legend this monumental temple built with travertine and alabaster, was founded by Carlo Magno who stopped to rest and escape the plague n his way to Rome.
Brunello di Montalcino Wine and Pecorino Cheese
